Campagna

Gianni Campagna (1944). Italian tailor, born in Roccalumera, Sicily. He arrived in Milan in 1962 to work with his master Domenico Caraceni who, though not belonging to the Caraceni dynasty, knew the trade. In 1972 Pier Giorgio Rivetti hired him at Gruppo Finanziario Tessile to be in charge of the style and model department. Ten years later, he joins Lubiam in order to redefine their sartorial line. Campagna invented the semi-traditional, a manufacturing system that reduced production time and costs. In 1987 he joined Marzotto, bringing the patent for the semi-traditional method with him, and became responsible for all the lines produced by the company. His return to tailoring occured in 1990, when he accepted a proposal from his friend Ciro Paone, the owner of Kiton. In 1995 he began a campaign to win a clientele in Hollywood and in the U.S., supported by his son Andrea Italia. In the meantime, his tailor shop Sartoria Campagna — with headquarters in Piazza San Babila, Milan — produces about 700 exclusive suits per year, entirely by hand. In the U.S. the Italian tailor dressed actors, bankers, and politicians. In 1999 he opened a new Milan headquarters on via Palestro at the intersection with Corso Venezia. It is a platform for his own production and for the brands Domenico Caraceni and Baratta (another historical griffe of Milanese fashion) that he has taken over.
