Boni, Chiara
Chiara Boni is an Italian fashion designer, who in the ’60s tied to Ufo Group.
The beginning
Chiara Boni (1948) is a Florentine fashion designer. At the end of the ’60s she tied to Ufo Group: from the contamination between architecture, art and fashion, which was at the time unknown in Italy, the first spontaneous dressing boutique, You Tarzan Me Jane, was born (in Milan with the alliance of Annalisa Castellini and in Florence and Forte dei Marmi with Elisabetta Ballerini). In 1973 the brand obtained a cover on Domus, the historical architecture and design magazine founded by Gio Ponti. First, the fashion designer designed dresses and accessories for the store: since 1975 she has adopted her name as brand name and she has integrated in the fashion system, with complete collections and runway shows.
Differently from other neo-avantgarde protagonists, in debt with Balla‘s futurism and Delaunay‘s constructivism, her style has always been sensual and conscious of the body, especially because of the use of stretch or soft materials, such as organzine.
The development of the brand
In 1985 Turin group GFT signed an agreement to produce and distribute menswear collections designed by Chiara Boni; then, in 2003, the Inghirami Group acquired 50 % of the brand, together with the right to produce menswear collections.
In 2015 Chiara Boni opened her first monobrand store in Milan, in via Sant’Andrea 8; other inaugurations came in 2016, in via del Babuino in Rome, in 2017, in Los Angeles, and in 2019, in her Florence, under the Loggia Rucellai.
In 2020 the offering of the brand increased, due to Trailblazer Chiara Boni, the menswear collection which since then has flanked the womenswear one. The choice came from American market, which required the practical elegance which the brand is known for to menswear. Furthermore, in the same year, also due to COVID-19 pandemic, she introduced a leisurewear line: «dynamic clothes to dress well, lightheartedly, inside and outside home».
