Bonas

Maurizio Bonas (1950) was an italian designer. Born in Milan, he soon moved to Florence where, at a young age, he began to be interested in fashion and fabrics. Thanks to experience gained in Prato and the outskirts of Florence, he learned the technical aspects of fabrics and yarns which are, after all, the strong point of his style. In 1986 he created the first men’s Collection under his own name. The predominant color was black, with a self-assured elegance that was not ostentatious, and a taste for details. It was minimalist but international in the overall image.

Bonas was considered one of the most innovative exponents of avant-guard

He was soon considered by critics to be one of the most innovative exponents of the avant-guard. His roots in the tradition of tailoring and his deep knowledge of raw materials allowed him to design fashions for a man with a strong contemporary identity who was not like everyone else and who was not subject to a facile conformity. Minimalism conquered the foreign markets, in particular the Japanese. In 1990 he signed his first agreement with Mitsubishi Corporation for the distribution of his Collections throughout Japan, It was renewed in 1994. That was followed by agreements with the Hong Kong firm Samisa for the opening of a first boutique in that city, and by the opening of a boutique in Taipei in 1995, and of one in Beijing in 1997. At the same time, the designer developed a new interest in women’s clothing. His first women’s Collection was presented in 1995 in previews in Tokyo, Paris and Milan, showing the same particulars and minimalist chic details as the men’s. Bonas is part of the Technical Committee of Pitti Immagine Uomo and is president of the consortium Avanguardia Italia (Avant-guard Italy).
He accepts the position of creative director at Franco Ziche, in the early days of the Cleo&Pat line of pants for men and women, and then creates the brand A.Snob, which is an anagram of his own name.
