Boccasile

Gino Boccasile (1901-1952) was a painter, poster designer and illustrator. Rather than being a witness to fashion through his drawing, he created a style which, in line with the dictates of the Fascist regime (curvaceous women; the large hips of a farmer’s wife for the campaign to increase the population), had an influence on fashion, especially through the covers that he did in 1937 and 1938 for the periodical Signorina Grandi Firme, published by Pitigrilly. There were generous necklines and tight skirts that outlined the bottoms of shapely women, along with exaggerated blouses and women who were “tri-dimensional.” A committed fascist, he was loyal to the Republic of Salò and designed propaganda posters. In the post-war period he worked again in advertising.
