Bikkembergs

Dirk Bikkembergs (1959) was a german designer, born in Flamershem. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp. His career started in 1982. Until 1987 he worked for Fashion Brand, a Belgian company making prêt-à-porter. But the turning point in his career was 1986. He won the third Golden Spindel as best fashion designer of the year, and this coincided with a decision to launch his own line. Presented in London in March of that same year, it consisted only of men’s footwear. In time, men’s shirts and knitwear were added. His début in men’s prêt-à-porter occurred in Paris, in January of 1988. The presentation of his first official Collection took place later that year, in September, again in Paris. The year 1996 saw the birth of a line of women’s footwear, alongside the men’s line, with few but very innovative models. In Spring-Summer of that year he launched Bikkembergs, a fast and dynamic men’s line, created for a young market.
He presents, in quick succession, the women’s line White Label, a footwear line, and a jeans Collection for men and women called Red Label.
He wins the Esprit du Siècle award, given by MoÍt & Chandon.
The second day of Moscow’s AlboModa is entirely dedicated to Belgian designers. Presenting their Collections are Veronique Branquinho, Dirk Bikkembergs and Walter Bereindonck.
For the 2003-2004 season the uniforms of Inter Football Club are designed by Dirk Bikkembergs. It was an unusual runway for the Belgian designer, at the Inter Football Club headquarters on via Durini. The agreement with the black and blue soccer team is the crowning achievement of his life’s passion, a career marked by the presentation of his Collection in soccer stadiums, and of women’s knitwear Collections decorated with the numbers of a soccer team.
