Bassman

Lillian Bassman (1917) was an american photographer. In her photographs, the material sense of what she documents finds support in the skillful use of light. Her bold experiments in form have not always been appreciated by her clients. In 1942 she started at Harper’s Bazaar working with Brodovitch and, in 1945, she became director of a spinoff, Junior Bazaar. After being forgotten for many years, she was honored at the Festival de la Photo de Mode in 1994, and the New York Institute of Technology dedicated an exhibition to her in 1997 on the occasion of her 80th birthday.
