Aspesi

Aspesi is an Italian brand, founded in 1969 by homonymous fashion designer.

The birth and the success of Aspesi

Alberto Aspesi was born in 1944 in Gallarate (VA): in 1969 he gave lifo to his company, called A&D – Camiceria Aspesi and specialized in shirt production. In 1973 it changes its name in Bagarre and, in 1990, the name changed again in the founder’s one.

When Italian fashion industry aspired to research on materials, the brand was able to stand: he reached success thanks to the production of nylon quilted jacket, which were before relegated to technical clothing.

In the ’70s the company expanded its production: it created real collection and partnered with famous fashion designers and photographers, such as Walter Albini, Franco Moschino, Marco Zanini, Peter Lindbergh, Oliviero Toscani and Paolo Roversi. From then the fashion house defined its style, minimal and sophisticated, able to remain in time.

The changes of property

In April 2003 Intek, which owned 50 % of the company, sold its shares to investment company Grayling, owned by Tabacchi family; the other half of the brand, instead, was kept by its founder. In 2008 Grayling sold its part to Investitori Associati.

Then, in 2013, Alberto Aspesi acquired again the 50 % of the brand, thanks to Bocca di Rosa society, controlled by himself. In this way, he was the only owner of the brand again.

In 2017 there was a new change of property: the entire brand was acquired by Armònia SGR, which wanted to revamp it. Two years later Simona Clemenza, strongly recommended by the investment company, became CEO of the brand and replaced her predecessor Fabio Gnocchi, with the aim to hasten the international expansion of the company.

In November 2020 the first Creative Director was appointed. Lawrence Steele was chosen, who already partnered with the brand in the 2002 SS collection and who already had similar experiences at Prada and Marni.
