Arakawa

Shinichiro (1967). Japanese designer. He studied fine arts in Tokyo, and then fashion at the Studio Berµot in Paris, where in 1993 he presented his first prêt-à-porter Collection. Two years later he presented in the streets of Tokyo some pieces manufactured only with traditional Japanese materials. This Collection was entitled Koinobori, from the multicolor flag typical of the children’s festival in May.
He launched the first line of “artwork clothing,” garments which can be worn or hung on the wall like paintings.
His Autumn-Winter Collection was inspired entirely by Seiko Matsuda, a pop star of the 1980s, when the designer was a teenager.
His continued his collaboration with Honda for the creation of a line of clothing for motorcyclists called Shinichiro Arakawa Honda, to which a women’s line is added. The début of each new Collection became a regular part of Tokyo’s Fashion Week.
His three Collections for the new millennium presented in Paris are inspired by the spatial dimensions length, breadth and depth.
