JONATHAN ANDERSON IS A BRITISH DESIGNER, FOUNDER OF THE JW ANDERSON BRAND AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF LOEWE

He was born in Magherafelt in Northern Ireland in 1984. The designer moved to the United States to pursue an acting career. He studied at the Studio Theater in Washington DC but he soon discovered an interest in costume design, which led him back to England to pursue his studies in menswear design at the London College of Fashion, where he graduated in 2005. Anderson began his career working as a visual merchandiser for Prada under the guidance of Manuela Pavesi, Miuccia Prada‘s main collaborator.

During 2008 he started his career as a designer by founding the JW Anderson brand. He debuted with an elaborate collection of accessories that quickly caught the eye allowing the new brand to perform during the London Fashion Week in 2008. The debut collection earned him critical acclaim and commercial success. He prefers essentiality and minimalism without giving up experimentation in cuts and in the combinations of fabrics.

 

 

With JW Anderson, the designer offers a modern interpretation of masculinity and femininity by creating silhouettes that stimulate reflection through a fusion of elements of men’s and women’s clothing. Initially born as a men’s clothing brand, in 2010 it presented a women’s capsule collection, which then launched the permanent line. JW Anderson gradually evolved into an internationally renowned and award-winning brand. In fact, Jonathan Anderson received several awards including the British Fashion Awards for “Emerging Talent, Ready-to-Wear” (2012) and “The New Establishment Award” (2013).

Since 2012 , the brand has been collaborating with numerous fashion brands such asTopshop, Versace, Persol,Uniqlo, Moncler and Converse.

Starting from 2013, the French giant LVMH acquired minority stakes of JW Anderson. The same year, Donatella Versace called him instead of Christopher Kane as the director of Versace’s Versus diffusion line.

JONATHAN ANDERSON CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF LOEWE

In 2013, Jonathan Anderson consolidated his successes when he was appointed creative director of the Spanish fashion house Loewe. Anderson reserves a different approach to Loewe, respecting the more sober and traditional style of the brand. He intertwines literature and art, often drawing inspiration from artists such as David Wojnarowicz, Peter Hujar, William Morris and Oscar Wilde. There’s a greater decorativism with whimsical peaks of creativity. Moreover, he proposes collections that satisfy the needs of modernity and also actively respond to social matters.
