ADRIANA LIMA: A LIFE ON THE COVER.

Adriana Lima is a Brazilian supermodel, born in Salvador on June 12, 1981. Her beauty, however, has its origins in an ethnic melting-pot, between Portuguese, Swiss and Brazilian origins.

She is the only daughter of Nelson Torres, whom Adriana never met, as she left her and her mother Maria Graça when Adriana was only 6 months old.

Adriana, with her piercing eyes the color of a cloudy sky, her dark and shiny hair and her olive complexion, had the stuff in her blood to become a model. And she is not just any one, but one of the most celebrated supermodels.

CAREER

Already at the age of 15, the very young Lima won the  Ford Supermodel of Brazil accord. She came second in the international ranking of the competition.

In fact, Lima entered the competition by chance, as she went to the selection to accompany a friend. It was a lucky coincidence, considering that she folded her career from then on.

After the victory, he moved to New York and signed a contract with the  Elite Model Management agency . At this point her career was launched: she began appearing on the cover of numerous magazines: Vogue , Marie Claire , Elle , Harper’s Bazaar and GQ .

In 1997, Adriana made her runway debut. She walked the Spring-Summer collection for Anna Sui during New York Fashion Week.

From that moment on, she appeared as a model in the collections of the most established designers and brands in the fashion industry: Vera Wang , Marc Jacobs , Ralph Lauren , Giorgio Armani , Bottega Veneta , Prada , Versace , Christian Lacroix , Christian Dior , Louis Vuitton , Givenchy .

THE TURN WITH VICTORIA’S SECRET

The real consecration as a world famous model, envied by many and known by most, came with the appointment as Angel of Victoria’s Secret.

She is the supermodel to have opened more shows, as many as 5, in the editions of 2003, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. Together with Heidi Klum she also holds the record of closures with three shows: 2001, 2002 and 2018.

He appears in numerous advertising campaigns, including one with singer Bob Dylan.

In 2004 he is one of the Angels to participate in the  Angel Accross America tour with Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bündchen and Alessandra Ambrosio. Also, in 2007, five o’clock receives a star on  the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

FANTASY BRA

Together with Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima is the only model to have the opportunity to wear the Fantasy Bra, the prestigious bra of the brand composed of precious stones, on three different occasions:

– 2008: Lima wears the $ 5 million Miracle Bra. The bra was created by the American designer Martin Katz. It is composed of 3575 black diamonds, 117 one-carat diamonds and 2 black pear-shaped diamonds. The total weight is 100 carats;

– in 2010, he wears the Bombshell Fantasy Bra, composed of 142 carats of precious stones, including 60 diamonds and 82 topazes and sapphires, for a value of 2 million dollars. This piece bore the signature of the prestigious high jewelery brand, Damiani .

– in 2014, Victoria’s Secret presented two  Fantasy Bra , in the variations of red, worn by Alessandra Ambrosio and blue, worn by Adriana. The blue one is made up of 16,000 sapphires set in an 18-karat gold setting. The red variant is made up of rubies. Both bras are worth $ 2 million and were made by jeweler Pascal Mouawad.

In 2008, Victoria’s Secret chose Adriana as the protagonist of the Super Bowl commercial, the most watched during the game. Given the wide margin of success, Adriana was selected again as the protagonist of the same spot, in which a football match was recreated, in 2015, together with colleagues Doutzen Kroes, Behati Prinsloo, Lily Alridge and Candice Swanepoel, while in 2016 together to Alessandra Ambrosio, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes and Taylor Hill.

The following year, O Globo magazine declared her the most influential Victoria’s Secret Angel, given the increase in sales that the brand benefited from thanks to its commercials.

On November 8, 2018, during the show, Adriana announces her retirement from the prestigious underwear brand. She declares on her Instagram profile:

VICTORIA’S SECRET: 2000-2005

Victoria’s Secret is not the only element to have favored the disarming success of the supermodel of Brazilian origins.

In 2000, Adriana becomes the new face of Guess? , while in 2001 she is the testimonial of Armani Jeans.

The December of the following year, she appears naked on GQ Spin, photographed by Rusell James. Significantly, in 2003 she is on the cover of Vogue Brazil, both in August and in September.

Notably, in the same year, she became the testimonial of the US cosmetics brand Maybelline, a position she held until 2009, the year in which she was the protagonist of a limited edition calendar.

VICTORIA’S SECRET: 2006-2010

The following year she appeared in the US GQ, a service that caused particular discussion, given Adriana’s contrary opinion regarding premarital sex.

In 2008, she and her Victoria’s Secret colleagues appeared on GQ UK.

The following year, Lima is the protagonist of the Autumn-Winter collection of the French brand Givenchy, together with Mariacarla Boscono , Iris Stubegger, Ranya Mordanova and Leonor Scherrer.

In 2011, together with her colleague Sara Sampaio, she is the face of the Autumn-Winter 2011-2012 season of Blumarine and the Brazilian brand  Forum .

The following year is the face of Donna Karan’s advertising campaign for Spring-Summer 2012, made in Haiti.

In the same year,  Mavi Jeans , a Turkish clothing company, chose her as testimonial and this led to a 50% increase in sales in the first quarter.
Lima was also chosen by  Kia Motors as the face for its campaign, which boosted sales by 138%.

BEYOND VICTORIA’S SECRET: 2013-2014

In 2013 she appeared for the second time in the Pirelli Calendar, as the first woman to be photographed in pregnancy.

That year he was also one of the main faces of the Miu Miu campaign .

BEYOND VICTORIA’S SECRET: 2015-PRESENT

In 2015, Adriana Lima appears for the third time on the Pirelli Calendar, this time photographed by Steven Meisel .

She is chosen for many other advertising campaigns, including Versace for Richuelo, Marc Jacobs, Vogue Eyewear and Balmain .

During March, the Balmain show closes during Paris Fashion Week.

In the same year he becomes the face of H & M ‘s Summer line . In May she becomes the face of Marc Jacobs’ new perfume,  Decadence .

In November she receives the statue at Madame Tussaud’s Museum in New York: she is the first model to appear in the museum, as well as the second Brazilian personality after Pele.

NBC chooses Adriana and Alessandra Ambrosio as chronicler of the  Best of Rio de Janeiro format for the 2016 Olympics.

To open, he takes part in a commercial for the Palms Casino Resorti in Las Vegas along with other celebrities. She is chosen by BCBGMAXAZRI as testimonial of the Autumn-Winter campaign for the 30th anniversary of the brand.

Together with Puma, Adriana launches her own sportswear capsule.

As of 2020 he takes part in the Max Mara Spring-Summer advertising campaign created by Meisel.

PRIVATE LIFE

In 2009, Adriana married Cestita Marko Jarić in Wyoming. The couple had two daughters: Valentina, born in 2009 and Sienna, in 2012.

The two separated in 2014 and the divorce proceedings were completed in 2016.

From September 2021 she starts dating film producer Andre Lemmers. Their son Cyan Lima Lemmers was born from the union in August 2022.
