FIRENZE AQUAZZURA A LUXURY FOOTWEAR BRAND FOUNDED IN 2011 BY THE COLOMBIAN DESIGNER EDGARDO OSORIO AND RICARDO D’ALMEIDA FIGUEIREDO
Aquazzurra is the luxury footwear brand based in Firenze. After his experience with Ferragamo and Cavalli, Osorio founded his own brand. The golden pineapple was chosen as the brand logo because is a symbol of hospitality and beauty and is also considered a good luck charm in different cultures.
‘AQUAZZURRA FIRENZE’, on the other hand, is inspired by the crystal clear waters of the island of Capri, the designer’s favorite island. The shoes of the brand had an immediate success. In fact, a few days after Barneys New York ordered its debut Spring / Summer 2012 collection, they were already sold out.
The brand is sold in over 58 countries within the best retailers in the world. For instance, there were boutiques in Florence, London, New York, Miami, Doha, Dubai, Milan, San Paolo, Capri and soon in Venice. It is also present on Net-a-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman and Matchesfashion.com.
AQUAZZURA SALES POINTS
The first Aquazzura store is located in Palazzo Corsini in Firenze, the current headquarters of the brand. Florence was fundamental for the founders, because they managed to establish relationships with their suppliers and factories in the area. Some single-brand stores are designed specifically for the city that hosts them. In fact, the design of each store takes inspiration from the city where it’s located with a variation of products of 30 to 40 percent. The offer includes different colours and styles, as well as designs created exclusively for those places.

A new definition of luxury footwear
Many models have become true icons, offering a new definition of luxury footwear. Among these, “Sexy Thing 105”, “Wild Thing 105”, “Christy Flat” and the models “Powder Puff” and “Bow Tie” stand out. An Aquazzura shoe can take up to 6 months to be processed by specialized craftsmen. A single shoe can have more than 30 distinct components, mostly assembled by hand. The upper is cut and sewn using soft leathers or refined fabrics, while the soles are embellished with the brand’s distinctive symbol, the golden pineapple.
THE SUCCESS OF THE BRAND
After tripling its business between 2014 and 2016, the self-funded brand experienced an average annual growth of 20% in 2016 and 2017, according to Jean-Michel Vigneau, who joined Aquazzura as CEO in 2015. In 2017 the brand exceeded 100 million euros in turnover.
During June 2017, the company filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Ivanka Trump, alleging that the businesswoman’s namesake brand had copied the design of its well-known “Wild Thing” sandal.
In 2021, the jewelry line also debuted.
In addition to the seasonal collections, Edgardo Osorio launched exclusive capsule collections with internationally renowned influencers, including Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevingne, Claudia Schiffer, Racil Chalhoub, Vera Brezhneva and Begum Khan. He also collaborated with fashion and design brands such as Salvatore Ferragamo and de Gournay.
