Zucca

Zucca is a Japanese fashion label founded by Akira Onozuka in Tokyo. The brand was launched by Onozuka in 1988 with the first collections introduced in 1989 and showed in Paris. Then, Onozuka quickly had a following.

Before founding his business, Onozuka had previously worked with Miyake Design Studios under Issey Miyake in his Tokyo and Paris ateliers.

Despite its debut in the French capital, the Japanese label remains in the master’s orbit because his company – 30 shops in Japan and an annual turnover of 150 billion lire – is part of the Miyake Group.

International Success

Additional brands were launched by Zucca in 1992 with Hakui and in 1994 with Zucca Travail, both designed to provide work wear and uniforms for professionals.

Since ’96 he has also opened a boutique in Paris, La cabane de Zucca. While acknowledging that he was obviously influenced by Miyake, he tells of his fondness for the fashion of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Biba‘s clothes.

This is reflected in his style, which transforms the most casual and simple look into an out-of-the-ordinary creation. As a reason of that, Onozuka’s ability to fuse casual and edgy has led him to an international clientele.

In 2004, for its contribution to the world of ready-to-wear fashion, Onozuka and the Zucca brand received the first Trophee Elan from the French Federation.

There are now 30 boutiques worldwide, eight of which bear Le Cabane de Zucca name. He thus became a leading brand in Japan and Europe. The designer also developed a line of accessories, particularly watches that change model every season.

The beauty arising from the creative process of its designers manifests itself in extremely simple clothes that revisit a casual style attentive to the contemporary. A sense of peace, calm and happiness surrounds those who wear Zucca clothes, gifts of freshness and originality to everyday life.
