Wainwright, Janice

Janice Wainwright was born in 1940, in Chesterfield, UK. She studied at Kingston College of Art in London and then entered the Royal College of Art, where she now teaches. In the late 1960s she was considered one of the best talents of Swinging London.

From 1965 to 1968 he worked for the Simon Massey company, creating many lines under his own name. Then he followed 6 years of freelance design, also working with Sheridan Barnett.

His preference is for dinner and evening dresses, luxurious fabrics, strong colours, embroidered jersey and precious appliqués. The lines are always very feminine, fluid and seductive. Her prêt-à-porter dates back to 1974, when she created her company.

Wainwright’s creations were so successful that they were exhibited at the Fashion Museum in Bath and at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The fashion house closed in 1990, but still today Janice Wainwright’s clothes are highly sought after and considered precious vintage items, able to attract an important segment of the online vintage market.
