THE ORIGINS

The Car Shoe brand was founded in 1963, the year in which the Italian Ministry of Industry and Commerce awarded Gianni Mostile the patent for an absolutely innovative shoe model: a moccasin with a sole perforated by tiny rubber blocks. It started out as a shoe for motorists but later became a fashion accessory of great comfort and practicality, chosen by characters such as John Fizgerald Kennedy and Giovanni Agnelli.

CAR SHOE JOINS THE PRADA GROUP

In April 2001 the Prada Group took over the majority of the Car Shoe SA company, owner of the Car Shoe brand. The intent was to preserve and relaunch the brand through the original style and qualities of the “driving” model, designed by the founder in the 1960s.

The brand’s first store, designed by Roberto Baciocchi, opened in via della Spiga 50 in Milan on March 5, 2001. Afterwards, the stores in Capri and Rome opened in succession. In 2010 Car Shoe expanded its retail network in Asia and opened its first flahsgip store in Signapore, in the prestigious Ion Orchard Mall. The same year, the brand strengthened its presence in Asia with the opening of another store in Hong Kong. In December 2011 the brand opened its first store in the United Kingdom, in London, in New Bond Street. In November of the following year it opened in Dubai in the prestigious “Dubai Mall- Level Shoe District”. The last opening, in July 2013, was in Forte dei Marmi.

In June 2010, the Prada Group acquired full control of the brand, taking over the minority stake from the shareholder who owned it. In 2012 the new e-commerce site was launched. Following this, the brand opened its Social profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

In 2013, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebration, Car Shoe launched a new driving model in collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini. The same year the brand launched the Driver’s Club, a space dedicated to lifestyle and tradition, inspired by the passion for driving. For the September 2013 edition of the Goodwood Revival Festival, the historic car race, the brand designed a temporary shop in Goodwood high Street, West Sussex, which remained open for the duration of the festival.

In 2014 the brand presented the “Car Shoe Bulletins”, travel notes that travel the most iconic roads in the world.

COLLABORATION WITH ALFA ROMEO

In 2017 the footwear brand created a capsule collection in collaboration with Alfa Romeo, for the presentation of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV. This is how footwear inspired by racing drivers’ boots was born, available in three different colors. Then there is the possibility of customizing the shoes with your initials, available in the shop in Rome and Milan.

CAR SHOE LANDS ON AMAZON

In 2020, the Prada Group decided to launch the shoe brand on Amazon ‘s new luxury platform . Car Shoe was thus one of the first European brands to support the new project of the e-commerce giant, presenting the FW 2020 collection on the Prime App, accessible by invitation only.
