Borioli

Gisella (1945). Journalist and art director. In 1980, together with her husband Flavio Lucchini, she created the monthly Donna, which she directed until 1993. Created as a direct competitor of Vogue, it was the first specialized magazine to talk about fashion as a social and cultural phenomenon, including behind the scenes. It was a big editorial success. She started her career in 1966 on the editorial staff of Ottagono, a quarterly of architecture and design. The following year she was hired by Condé Nast as executive editor of Vogue and other magazines in the group. In 1971 she is chief editor of L’Uomo Vogue and, in the same year, co-director of Vogue Bambini. In 1977 she was the head of Lei, the youngest of their magazines. After directing Donna for 13 years, she opened Superstudio Project for consulting, multi-media and international editorial planning. She has published three books: 100 Donne, 10 Anni di Moda, and Gastel, all with Edimoda. For six years, she was responsible for the fashion section of Annuario Rizzoli. She organized two big photo exhibis (Gastel for Donna, 1991, and Star & Style, 1992) in the open air at via della Spiga in Milan, and the exhibit I disegni mai realizzati di Roberto Capucci (The Unbuilt Designs of Roberto Capucci ) at Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi in Milan (March 1999). She is also the designer and director of Book-Jeans, an innovative series of visual books dedicated to the mythical figures of young people, distributed in an original way in bookshops and jeans stores. The first two titles are Che Guevara and Jim Morrison. Starting in 1989 she has organized the first course for fashion journalists and editors through her Superstudio.
She creates, with her husband Flavio Lucchini, the Superstudio project, a large facility available to the city for events in fashion, art, and design, in a former industrial space owned by General Electric. This contributed to the upgrading of the neighborhood around via Tortona in Milan. As an artistic director, she is interested in theater (and contributes to the project Cittadella dello Spettacolo at the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan) and television, with consulting clients in Italy and abroad, including her work with Canale 5 for Nonsolomoda, and Donna Sotto le Stelle.
She directs the first European “fashion award”, La Kore-Oscar della Moda, a major event for the State TV network RAI-1.
